Acne is caused by an excessive production of sebum and a ‘piling up’ of skin cells, which results in blocked, inflamed pores, pimples, pustules and cysts.
Oily skin is characterised by thickened skin and oiliness, especially on the T-zone. Pores appear enlarged, produce excess oil which then acts as a binder holding on to dead skin cells. The excessive skin cells and sebum clog pores, forming blackheads that result in breakouts.
